The Daily Meal Picks Its 40 Best Burgers

Every publication and quest-for-the-best blogger has a list of the best burgers in America. The Daily Meal has published its list and I’m reprinting theirs here because they deserve the kudos and attention. Eat/Dine Editor Dan Myers and colleagues Arthur Bovino and Colman Andrews did the homework and the legwork to produce a list that has some surprises accompanied by pick justifications that are sound. They included 40 (rather than just 25) so that some unexpected burgers—such as Cozy Burger at The Cozy Inn in Salina, Kan.—could be included. Yes, that’s list-favorite Holeman & Finch Public House at the bottom in the No. 1 position, but it’s a great burger. No. 40, the Thurman Burger, was new to me and looks darned good, too. See TheDailyMeal.com’s slideshow here. As always, feel free to disagree: I like your burger better, too.

The Thurman only makes it in at No. 40 despite two beef patties, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, sautéed mushrooms, pickles, jalapeño slices, mayonnaise, a half-pound of sliced ham, and mozzarella and American cheeses.

Nice to see Jim-Denny’s Superburger get it’s props…it’s the best burger I’ve ever had in 54 years of burger scarfing…and the place can’t be beat-it’s a 9 seat counter in what was once a trailer-it’s been in the same place since the 1930’s, and has been using the same grillin all that time. Their hours are limited these days, but if you’re in Sacramento, take the time to find them-they’re a couple of blocks away from true downtown, but right across the street from the 16th and I Street light rail station.

Burgers-N-Beans in Milford, Delaware has a 2-Patty Chili Cheeseburger. Made with Fresh ground beef, never frozen, cooked to order using the smash burger method. They place it on a lightly buttered, lightly toasted Potato Kaiser Roll…… simply Melts In Your Mouth…. “Voted Best Burger In Their County” first year open. Not a franchise.
