Ξ IHOP never has had much presence in the burger category. Perhaps it was waiting for a gimmick. The chain’s revamped menu includes a new five-item line of Bacon ’N Beef Burgers (left). The “better burger” twist here is that chopped hickory-smoked bacon is blended into the ground beef. Choices are a Bacon ’N Beef Cheeseburger, Bacon ’N Beef Bacon & Egg Cheeseburger, Bacon ’N Beef Bacon Cheeseburger, Bacon ’N Beef Mega Mushroom Burger and Monster Bacon ’N Beef Cheeseburger.

Ξ Wendy’s is trying out two of its favorite flavor combinations—spicy chicken and BLT—as snack wraps. In its Ottawa, Ontario, restaurants, Wendy’s offers a snack-size Spicy Chicken wrap for $1.89 (US$1.84), while the BLT wrap is priced lower at $1.69 (US$1.65). In the U.S., the chain is featuring its Spicy Chicken Nuggets and its new salads, one of which is the BLT Cobb Salad. This comes as McDonald’s tests Chicken Grande Wraps, full-size versions of its chicken snack wraps.

Ξ McDonald’s latest Monopoly game-piece promotion begins Oct. 5 (ending Nov. 1) and the chain is using it to push McCafé beverages and selected breakfast items. Game pieces will be attached to packaging for medium and large hot or cold McCafé beverages, including smoothies and frappés but not shakes. Purchasing McGriddles or hash browns also gets you a game piece. Big Macs, 10-piece Chicken McNuggets and Filet-O-Fish sandwiches have game pieces as well. Top prize is a 2011 Ford Edge Sport.
