Hardee’s Rolling Out Budget Breakfast Platter

Filed under breakfast, LTO, Test Market

Hardee’s shifts the QSR marketplace’s focus back to breakfast and back to budget pricing with next week’s introduction of a new Hardee Breakfast Platter (yep, no apostrophe-s on the name here).

Rather than add just an item, Hardee’s put together a meal that has a scratch-made buttermilk biscuit with a bowl of sausage gravy, one scrambled or folded egg, two strips of bacon and a pile of Hash Rounds (“Eleven of them. Not 12, 11,” one precise operator informed me). Already in several markets, the Hardee Breakfast Platter is officially priced at $2.49, although Hardee’s in some markets are pricing it at as high as $2.99. Even there, it compares favorably with dollar-menu pricing at other QSR chains.

The new meal is a variation of the Loaded Biscuit ‘N’ Gravy that Hardee’s brought out in April 2010. That combined two folded eggs, two sausage patties on a biscuit with sausage gravy on top. It was $2.99 but required an upcharge to $4.69 to get the Hash Rounds and coffee.

The new offer brings Hardee’s back to breakfast, where it traditionally has been very competitive, after it was off developing other dayparts. Recent introductions have included the Hardee’s $5 Big Box Lunch, Turkey Thickburger (in test) and Texas Toast Bacon Cheese Thickburger.
